Alpha Cephei September’ 24 update: alien samples and more!


We are excited to announce the September ’24 Update for the Alpha Cephei core rulebook! This update brings a wealth of new content and improvements to enhance your adventures in the galaxy. Let’s talk about it.

24 Brand New Alien Creatures

This update introduces 24 original alien creatures that are fully statted, illustrated, and ready to drop into your campaign. From terrifying predators to elusive prey and even alien pets, these creatures span various types, subtypes, and terrains. Whether it’s the cunning Murkjaw stalking its prey or the docile Tundrabull providing valuable resources to settlers, these creatures will make your game world feel more vibrant and unpredictable.

These new additions are designed to be seamlessly integrated into any campaign, providing fresh encounters that will keep your players on edge. Whether you’re playing a high-stakes survival scenario or adding depth to your xenobiology, these creatures will add excitement and diversity to your adventures.

Playable Species Overhaul

Our existing playable alien species have undergone a complete rewrite to enhance their uniqueness, making them even more engaging for players. We’ve also added cool illustrations to bring them to life visually. But the big news? We’re introducing a brand-new playable species, the mysterious Solar – ready to join your adventures as a compelling new option!

Rules Refinements

Based on player feedback, we’ve made important clarifications to certain rules and balance tweaks to make your gameplay experience even smoother. These refinements ensure that Alpha Cephei remains intuitive and fun while maintaining the complexity and depth that makes it special.

Improved Formatting for a Smoother Read

In addition to the new content, we’ve cleaned up the formatting throughout the book. This update makes for a more consistent and comfortable reading experience, letting you focus on the game rather than navigating through the text. Expect a polished look and an overall more streamlined feel.

Changelog of Version 2409

  • Tweaked target numbers/difficulties of checks (p. 12).
  • Rewrote descriptions of the Agent, Army, Belter, Rogue and Scout (pp. 32-34, 41, 43).
  • Tweaked civilian life events and survival mishaps for a lower chance of doing prison time in character creation (pp. 44 and 46).
  • Tweaked a few target numbers in skill usage examples for consistency (pp. 58, 60, 62).
  • Reordered the ranged weapons in p. 72 alphabetically, after grouping by TL.
  • Fixed “autopistol” into just “pistol” in several locations (pp. 72, 73, 74, 103, 220, 221).
  • Fixed “advanced combat rifle” into “pulse rifle” following reader’s suggestion, to make it more distinguishable/less generic (pp. 72, 73, 74).
  • After renaming two weapons, had to reorder ranged weapon descriptions, with no content changes apart from also adding a piece of filler art (pp. 73, 74).
  • Fixed target numbers on administration of pharmaceuticals for consistency (pp. 84, 85).
  • Fixed unarmed damage to STR modifier or 1, whatever is higher (p. 106).
  • Fixed target number for locking missiles for consistency (p. 187).
  • Clarified the Fire hazard section (p. 217).
  • Fixed dehydration damage cycles (p. 219).
  • Fixed small inconsistencies in inventory entries for Mercenary Gunman, Police Detective, Spacer Crew, Spacer Veteran and Technician (pp. 220, 221).
  • Rewrote the Sample Sentient Alien Species section for better descriptions, added a new original and unique alien race (the Solars), and added a piece of artwork depicting each of the now four non-human playable aliens (now on pp. 226-229).
  • Added no less than 24 fully-statted all-new sample alien creatures in 12 pages of new content (now on pp. 250-261).
  • Clarified for other authors how to publish Alpha Cephei-compatible material (now on p. 269).
  • A ton of minor formatting and grammar fixes.
