Alpha Cephei print book prototype

Sneak peak of what is coming soon…

Here’s something I love about RPGs. Digital is so convenient for game prep, quick cross-referencing, looking stuff up without having to go to the library. But oh boy, RPG in print is still one of my favorite things in the hobby.

Alpha Cephei took a while in development, but at the same day I had a finished book to go, I also took the time to prepare files for a print prototype. Why? Because getting a new RPG is great, but nothing beats getting RPG in the mail. 😅

Pictured above is just a prototype for catching print errors and getting a feel of the real thing in hand, but it already got me going that I couldn’t hide it even for a day.

Some people asked for print right at the release day–a few close friends plainly refuse to even check the digital product whatever comes with it, they want the book on the shelf. Some even found my prototype listed on my local print-on-demand service right away. Right now I don’t recommend getting it, as it’s still a prototype that can do with some tweaks. It’s out there just for a few friends who couldn’t wait even a second. But they’re in for a treat, and real soon.

I already completed a round of proof-reading, now I’m fixing what needs fixing, and adding a little surprise… the book will get a flash expansion with some pretty cool stuff for Referees, probably 16-20 pages. You’ll see this expansion in the digital product too, hopefully within the week.

After that, I’m gonna set up a number of formats in print-on-demand. The book was originally designed as digest size, which is non-standard in Brazil where I live. So apart from digest, there’ll probably be A5, plus softcover and hardcover for both, obviously full color (though I’m not beyond adding a black-and-white super affordable format).

I’m not going to be able to commit to a release date right now, because I wouldn’t suggest this buy unless I was 100% sure it was the best I could make it, and that means I still need to get the finished copies printed again and delivered here… which can take forever at this point. I’m in the southern hemisphere, and that’s a 100 dollar/1 month haul from either of DrivethruRPG or Lulu. Even Brazilian print-on-demand took 20 days to print and deliver because of the mother of all floods that recently unfortunately hit my state and destroyed our airport (taking months to repair).

But I promise you, this is a real deal, I’m getting it out as soon as I can, and it’s gonna be cool.

For now, support development by acquiring digital please, only on DrivethruRPG.
